Cookies and web analytics

While you browse this site, part of the data is collected automatically, without any form being filled in: cookies and similar browser storage (localStorage), IP address, browser type and language, device type and screen size, the address of the page you open and of the page you came from, the date and time of the visit, and on-page actions — views, scrolling, clicks.

What it is for. Technical cookies and browser storage keep the site working: they remember the language you picked and the fact that you have already seen the cookie notice. Analytics data shows, in aggregate, which pages people use and which ads bring them here. We build no visitor profiles and take no decisions about an individual person on the basis of this data.

Analytics. The site runs a Yandex.Metrica counter, no. 111519070 (a service of Yandex LLC). Metrica writes its own cookies and sends the technical data listed above to Yandex servers, where it is processed on Yandex's own terms: Terms of Use of the Yandex.Metrica service and Yandex Privacy Policy. Session recording (Webvisor) is switched off. As of this revision the site carries no other counters and no third-party advertising pixels.

The notice. The bar at the bottom of the screen is informational: it does not block the site, and “Got it” only hides it and remembers that in your browser. You can refuse cookies in your browser settings (Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data; Safari — Settings → Privacy; Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security), or opt out of Yandex.Metrica specifically with Yandex's blocking add-on — see “Opting out of sending data to Yandex.Metrica”. With cookies fully blocked, parts of the site behave differently: the language you picked and the dismissed notice will not be remembered.
